Is there a way to restrict an employee from clocking in before 30 minutes from when they last clocked out? In California an employee must be relieved from all duties for at least 30 minutes. If an employee clocks back in at 29 minutes, this would be considered an incompliant lunch break and the company will have to pay them 1 hour of penalty pay. Restricting an employee from clocking in before 30 minutes will help the company ensure that the employee takes a meal period pursuant to CA labor code and will lower cost and risk.

Hi Lisa, I think a report would definitely be helpful. I don't know the legalities but it sure would be nice if we didn't need to have so many hours wasted correcting these clock ins after a meal break. In a different suggestion (https://keystyle.ideas.aha.io/ideas/KDS-I-4262), this user spells out the work that is need to correct all those early clock-ins. If we can't get that setting to restrict clock-ins after meal break, a report would be very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you for your comment, Karen. Our legal team advised against restricting users from being able to clock back in. Would a report on users who did not take their full meal break be helpful? Or perhaps a filter?
Hi Kellie,
That setting just is supposed to give a warning, and does NOT restrict clocking back in after so many minutes. I would like to be able to keep employees from clocking back in if it is too early.
Hi Karen, you can decide if the portal setting in enabled/disabled for each PR CO and PR Group
I would like to add that, since you now have the feature to restrict clock in if a user has clocked out on a meal break, can we please add a toggle to that Portal Setting to enforce it or not? Basically, we would like to be able to keep employees from clocking back in if it is not past his allotted meal time break.
A "clock out for lunch" button would be FANTASTIC Mark. But I think we also have to collect the manual clock back in or something.
Yes this would be helpful but a better solution might be to have a pop up message stating that they are clocking in before their meal period is over, and asking if this is voluntary or involuntary and if voluntary, asking them to explain why it's voluntary. Would also like a notification when they clock in for the first meal period after the fifth hour worked.
We are looking for this change. We were planning to migrate to Employee Portal for time card management, due to this meal break issue we stopped our implementation. Can we address this soon, so that we can continue with our implementation?
oh I am sorry. The login page.
Hey Mary,
Where in the portal are your users clocking in/out? We allow for the following:
Navbar
Login page
Web Kiosk
Field Web Kiosk
Thanks!
Hi Mark, I am using portal version 1.22.5.3779
That would be great if we can give the user the option to select "clock out for lunch" & "clock in from lunch" and restrict them from clocking in from lunch before 30 minutes.
I would prefer to not allow them to clock in because I can see an employee not taking it seriously if we allow it with just a warning.
Hey Mary,
Which type of clock in are you using? Do you think it makes sense to give the user the option to select an option for "Clock out for lunch" or would it be better on ever clock in to warn them if they have not take their full 30 minute break?
Thank you
