We recently migrated to the cloud and are taking advantage of the federated domain access for our AD users. We have a lot of non-AD users who now need to be set up with Trimble IDs and there is no way to do this automatically. Since portal access should not be under Viewpoint administrator control, I propose a change to allow it to be managed by HR.
When HR enters employee changes, if there is an email address entered, the process of pushing an employee to Payroll (thus making the employee an active Payroll employee) should allow (via a checkbox that is set by default) the HR process to "Send Trimble ID invitation" and create the underlying infrastructure to have the employee be set up with a Trimble ID.
The checkbox could be labeled "Sent Portal Invitation", but it is essentially going to be what sends the email to invite the employee to create the Trimble ID to allow him or her to log into the Portal.
These Portal only users have no place in VA User Profile and make Vista management a nightmare. These users can still show on the Viewpoint Team page so that they can be managed that way.
