We handle our progress billings by day of the month, i.e. - 10th, 15th, 20th, etc. Our Billing Dept uses a custom report that allows us to pull all Active Contracts by what Process(ing) Group is assigned. We then export that report to Excel and email the Project Managers a copy. If the PM wants to submit a progress billing for that month, they fill out the percentages by Contract Item and resubmit back to the Billing Dept. There is a lot of duplicate entry that is happening this way. I'm almost envisioning a similar workflow to the portal's Expense Reporting for corporate credit cards. I upload a file (or in this case have the system create Progress Bills based on a selected Process(ing) Group), and because a particular Contract had a bill created, that would send an email prompt to a defined person. They could then log onto the Portal and provide the billing percentages and submit. The submission would follow an "approval" workflow that somehow makes it way back to the Billing Dept to finish the bill and transmit to the customer.
