Updated HTML / Text Editor

The HTML / Text editing functions need some work. I can copy and paste the same text into the text box twice and open the HTML editor to see two different versions of code. Sometimes the code received is exactly what to expect, but other times, there are hundreds of seemingly random and unnecessary characters mixed into the code, making it difficult to edit in that view.

We emphasize our brand internally and externally, so having the ability to add custom fonts and an easier way to change colors of text would help make our branding consistent. We also do not conform to the text style options used (Paragraph 1, Paragraph 2, Headline, etc.) and would rather see a numerical text sizing option like a typical text editor. As of now, we have to open the HTML text editor and use trial and error to guess the size of text that we need.

Another part of this that would help us to brand more efficiently is the ability to upload photos directly to the text box. Right now, folks have to upload any photos they want to use in messaging through the portal to a different site and reference that URL in the portal's image upload function. This is dangerous to any company protecting their brand because a majority of those sites claim all the rights to any image that users upload there. If, for example, we wanted to use our logo in a message to our employees, we would have to upload it to an outside site, possibly losing the rights to our own logo. For this reason, we have steered clear of using photos in our messages through the portal.

Ideally, I do not believe I need to use the HTML function nearly as often as I do currently. It should only be for functions lacking in the normal realm of text editing, which I believe has to include fonts, colors, and photos. I worked in tech for a couple years through college and, many years ago, taught myself how to customize my MySpace page, so the fact that I know HTML well enough to make this feature palatable for our organization's use is not the norm for the average HR professional.

tl;dr:

  • Increased accuracy of HTML
  • Ability to add custom fonts and change font color
  • Ability to upload photos to the text editor without having to upload to an external site.
