This would not only allow the ability to update meter readings but also provide information to the Shop(s) to review for potential work orders and/or safety issues. Storing a log of daily operator inspections/reports by piece would be helpful to all.

We would like to have the Meter Reading in Vista EM be updated when it is updated in a work order or in the equipment action update meter option so our mechanic doesn't need to enter it into EM in Vista and he would just need to worry about working in the portal.
We have developed this with Fiddletree systems where a Preops checklist will create a Work Order given certain criteria. As part of that, our Preops check list collects meters and will populate Vista Meters batch and post!
The app does not update Vista and users could enter inconsistent numbers to upload. Being able to do both without human intervention keeps everything accurate and available to all Vista/Portal Users.
I don't think we need the option of the operator inspection. It is easy enough through the App. The update meters is already an option in the equipment dash board.
