There is currently no field to enter the gender of a dependent - you can enter the relationship, but not the gender.
When the information is updated to Vista HR, that field appears to default to the first radial button option, which is male.
We switched carriers, and I just sent a new enrollment file to them that has numerous new dependents, all who have a relationship of daughter and a gender of male. The carrier is questioning this. Shame on me for not auditing the data better before I sent it, but their question exposed the deficit in the portal's self service update feature.
This adds an extra step for HR now, to have to go into Vista and "fix" the gender on dependents, which actually negates one of the advantages of using the portal to update this kind of information.

Thank you. I'll update our portal and our problem will be solved.
Hi Team,
Andrew is correct, this is an option that can be added to your available fields for dependent updates on the Request Settings page. I will be marking this as already exists, but if you have any questions please let me know!
A Personal Info Admin can add this field in by going to Employee Tools - Request Settings, changing the dropdown to "HR Dependents" then selecting "HR Dependents - Sex" from the Available Fields dropdown and clicking Add. Once it's added you can click "Rename" and change it to Gender if you would prefer.
It is is important that this is fixed. When having 270 plus employees and the data defaults to the dependents to being male, that is a lot of manual work to correct.
