California Payroll Compliance – Dynamic Prompts for Employees Clocking Out

To further comply with California labor law, we have been advised by our legal team to prompt employees with dynamic, rules-based prompts upon clock-out.  This is in addition to Keystyle’s static prompts that are asked of everyone.

An example prompt would be:  “You’ve been clocked in for over 5 hours without a meal period.  Is this voluntary or involuntary?”

(*) Voluntary

(O) Involuntary

The answer given should be stored in the database for reporting, but no additional workflow would be necessary.  Internally a question like this would drive paying meal penalties, as well as give insight into supervisor behaviors.
